Book Club: “The Other End of the Leash” Chapters 8-10

February 8, 2021 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Book pick by Nancy Bown.

Please join us to discuss one of my all-time favorite books. “The Other End of the Leash.”  I read this book almost 20 years ago and had my first aha! moment. At the time, I was struggling with the decision to continue my education in dog training or to pursue my other true love — the study of wine. This book pointed me in the right direction, and I have never regretted this decision. How better to celebrate than to reread this book with friends while drinking an amazing glass of wine. May I suggest something from Thompson 31fifty winery or Riverrain Vineyards. You can attend any of these discussions at our Dog-Harmony location or virtually in the comfort of your home. I look forward to sharing this with you!

Short Description:

Fascinating, insightful, and compelling … this is a book that connects you with your dog in a completely new way. One reviewer said: “What you don’t know about your dog could fill a book. It’s called “The Other End of the Leash.” Considered a classic in the field, and now translated into 13 languages, this book will:

  • Revolutionize the way you interact with your dog
  • Show how different species share things, but still, have confusion
  • Illuminate how dogs and people are the same and yet so different
  • Help you see the world from your dog’s perspective
  • Teach ways to communicate so that your dog understands you
  • Explain why training dogs isn’t always easy

Reader Reviews:

“I love this book and have given away many copies over the years. I teach a lot of Beginner obedience classes and I wish every one of my students would read this book. So much insight into how we communicate and miscommunicate with our dogs. Trish McConnell has done the research and knows her topic well. Presented in an easy to understand format with many examples from her years of practical experience.”

— Frenchyluvr

“Thank you for a wonderful, well-written book. It has given me enormous insight, and I am recommending it to anyone who has ever loved a dog.”
