About
Dog-Harmony
We believe the relationship between
dogs and humans is special!
Through ongoing therapy dog engagements in hospitals and at-risk youth facilities, and community canine education in schools and libraries, we want to improve interactions between humans and dogs through humane education.
We help dogs
rescue people!
Founded in 2015 by professional dog trainer Nancy Bown, CPDT-KA,
Dog-Harmony is a non-profit 501(c)3 educational charity dedicated to enhancing the relationship between dogs and humans through ongoing community education in schools and libraries, and managing therapy dog engagements in hospitals and at-risk youth facilities. Simply put, we help dogs rescue people.
Dog-Harmony programs provide evidence-based information related to human interactions with dogs, and especially the care and well-being of these amazing animals. Understanding and empathy is the result of humane education and this significantly reduces the likelihood that a dog will be abandoned or surrendered to a shelter.
Programs are dynamic, changing to focus on the greatest needs of the community at the time. Current programs include children’s education, therapy dog support and services, community education and support, and shelter support by helping their staff evaluate new intakes. All of our programs are made possible only through donations, grants, and continued support from our incredible volunteers.
What People Are Saying About Dog-Harmony
“Nancy Bown of Dog-Harmony gave a presentation at the Destin Library on June 8th. The program was a hit with our community and engaged patrons of all ages. The children in attendance paid close attention, actively asked questions and shared stories with Nancy. They requested pointed advice on how to interact with their pets based on specific behaviors, and overall seemed to have a great time learning about bite prevention. Nancy did a fantastic job creating a presentation that was the perfect balance of engaging and informative. She is obviously an expert on the materials she discussed and was very adaptive to the audience. We fully intend to invite Nancy and the other educators from Dog-Harmony back to the library for additional programming.”
