Kids Giving Back: Local Child Raises More Than $100 for Dog-Harmony

Vivian Coloer’s heart has always been full of love. She has always loved animals, being outdoors playing and moving. But after her family went on a long search to find a new furry family member, she discovered the importance of second chances and what the many rescues in our area do. This led her to raising over 100 dollars for Chance, a former adoptable dog from Dog-Harmony who needed multiple surgeries before he could be adopted.

“Seeing kids like Vivian step up is incredible,” said Nancy Bown, Founder of Dog-Harmony. “Her hard work and generosity is exactly what we need more of in the world today.” When she was three years old, Vivian’s family dog, Sebastian, passed away, and while they did not plan on adding a new four-legged member to their family right away, Vivian missed him so much that they started looking at all local shelters and rescues.

However, they had some difficulties finding a good match with their home, family and lifestyle. After quite some time searching, they drove out to Panama City with hopes that they found the one. Vivian had her doubts, as this new dog was three time bigger than their last dog.

After thinking it over for a while, they returned to the rescue, looking around one more time. The dog was still there—happy, energetic and ecstatic to see Vivian. So, they filled out the adoption papers, and the dog, now named Kiki, went home with them.

“This is when Vivian learned how important it is to adopt instead of buying puppies at the store,” said her mother, Erin Coloer. From there, Vivian reached out to their neighbor, Shyron Bynog, who runs Decadent Healthy Chocolate, and came up with a plan to sell chocolate to raise money for rescues, and when she heard about Chance’s story, she knew that is where she wanted the money to go.

Chance’s surgeries were successful, and he was adopted by a wonderful family in February 2021.
